An Update From Ipoh (Akmars)

Here’s an update from Akmar:

Hello Dr. Chan,
I hope you’re in good health with your family members and your furkids.
Something happened over the weekend and I would like to share it with you.

On the day I sent you an email about Bobby’s diasappearance, Pretty
had somehow managed to push through the window and escaped from the
house. My husband returned from work noticing her absence, so he
scoured the neighbourhood looking for her. Unfortunately, the search
was futile as Pretty was not around in sight. I guess she was stressed
and went out looking for Bobby.

When I returned home, I joined my husband in searching for her, but we
couldn’t find her anywhere. We had to return to my mother’s due to
some urgent family matters, but since we couldn’t find Pretty
anywhere, we decided to go back without her. Only God knows how
worried sick we are, thinking of Pretty and Bobby’s whereabouts and
well-being…this time around, we also suspected that she had also
been catnapped by the same person who took Bobby. Of course, the worst
of the worst things comes to pur minds but we kept our prayers and
hopes high for their return.

Yesterday, we went back to our place, with half of our minds resigning
to the fact that we might not see Bobby and Pretty (ever again). ..
then, the unexpected happened upon our arrival at the gate. My
next-door neighbour, Kak Nor (may God bless her soul) told us that she
had been taking care Pretty during the weekend. Apparently, her
husband found Pretty lying on the driveway (perhaps waiting for us to
open the door), but since the gates were locked he couldn’t get to
her. Then, Pretty went to Kak Nor’s house and she slept there.
Luckily, Kak Nor also have cats so she fed Pretty together with her
brood and confined her to a cage occasionally to prevent her from
going M.I.A. again. Imagine our surprise and relief upon hearing
that…

Upon checking Pretty, we were glad to see that she still has her
collar, but the information paper that I had slit in there had been
taken out (no surprise there). However, upon closer look, we noticed
that Pretty’s whiskers were shorter.. as if it had been cut. That
explains why Pretty didn’t (or couldn’t) come home sooner. Perhaps the
taker had done the same thing to Bobby.. poor Bobby.. =(

Off all things imagined, I could never comprehend the length of
appalling behaviour of some people towards the animals, especially in
Pretty’s case. Was that person so depserate to gain a pet that he/she
had to resort to such action in order to secure the taken pet firmly
in their home(s)?

It is so sad to see our beloved pets (or animals fo that matter) being
treated in such inhumane manner. One of my hopes for 2012 is for
society and community, in particular, would be more compassionate
towards others; other humans, animals and the environment.

Thank you Dr. Chan, for reading my email, and may God bless you in
everything you do.
