What Happened Today? By Richard Lim

I think I'll start a little diary to keep people informed of the difficulties we face each day.

27th August 2012

A woman called asking us to go catch all the stray animals around her place because there were too many of them and she'd noticed that some were dumped by people. I told her that's why the public needs to work with us in reporting people who dump animals to the police for cruelty to animals because animal abandonment can be considered as an intentional act which causes suffering. If such people are not reported, they'll continue dumping animals, generation after generation, thinking that someone out there will have the time to take care of their unwanted pets or disliked strays. She hung up on me. Guess what she wanted to hear was, 'Ok, I'll be right there with the pole to remove all the animals'.

A woman called regarding the MBKS neutering campaign saying that she wanted to go to another vet which was not listed.I told her she was not allowed to choose because the workload was spreaded out evenly amongst the vets with no favouritism. She then asked me to pick her cat up and send it to the vet in town for her. I told her we didn't even have time to answer every rescue call so how could we find time to go pick up her cat, send it for neutering, wait there and then send it back to her. Shetried another approach andasked me to take her cat then since she had no time for it. I heard her coughing in the background so she was probably one of those who blamed their pets for their health problems and told her that keeping a pet is one of the easiest things in the world. All she needed to do was to give it food and clean water everyday. She hung up on me too.
