Zappos Gives Big To Save Pets

Our friends at Zappos, the happiest place in the world for online shopping, in collaboration with Best Friends Animal Society, have turned the Black Friday shopping weekend into a giving bonanza for homeless pets!
Zappos is underwriting the adoption fees for more than 150 participating Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network partners around the country from Black Friday, November 27, through Cyber Monday, November 30. That means that Zappos will be picking up the adoption fee for your new pet if you visit one of the listed partners between Friday and Monday. For each adoption through Best Friends or our Network partners, Zappos will also donate $150 to Best Friends to help cover the cost of food, medical care, immunizations, training and more for animals in our care awaiting homes. The total donation amount, including adoption fees, is a maximum of $1.1 million.
This is a great opportunity for many local shelters and rescue groups whose operating costs and vet bills are paid for by adoption fees and who are normally unable to offer reduced-fee or, as in this case, free adoptions.* Hopefully this promotion will save thousands of lives and be a great kick-off to the holiday season.
Here is some early feedback from one of our Network partners:
“Wow! That is amazing! I fully expected a standardized subsidy or a cap. We have so many dogs who have been in rescue for months, but haven’t been able to waive the fees because of the impact it has on our ability to pull and help medical cases, pay bills, etc. We have gotten over 200 applications in just 48 hours because of this promotion. I’m speechless!”
Zappos has built its reputation on excellent customer service and a high level of staff satisfaction and mission buy-in. The company has something to offer all of us in animal welfare by way of an example of engaging the public with what we are offering — homeless pets looking for new homes. Stepping up to the plate, as they are doing with this Black Friday through Cyber Monday pet adoption promotion, is just another example of putting their core values to work in the wider community.
It also makes them a great supporter for Best Friends in our mission to Save Them All. We know that this ambitious call to action will require strategic participation from organizations large and small in every region of the country. That’s why we created the Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network of like-minded animal rescue organizations and shelters committed to ending the killing of dogs and cats in shelters in the U.S.
So, hats off to Zappos for their vision and their commitment to their values, and hats off to our Network partners who have joined us in this remarkable holiday promotion.
