Zappos Black Friday Adoption Event: A Door-Buster For Sure!

There will be more to come, but the early returns for NKLA

Zappos’ Black Friday pet adoption promotion are fantastic! Best Friends and more than 150 of our Network partner organizations around the country completed more than 6,200 adoptions between November 27 and November 30, and Zappos picked up the adoption fee for every one of them. It was the first national adoption promotion with waived fees, courtesy of a national retailer on the biggest shopping day of the year.

Thank you, Zappos!

When I saw Zappos trending on Facebook, based on their support of rescue, I knew they were onto a good thing, and so were we!

Beyond Best Friends’ No More Homeless Pets Network of 1,400 like-minded animal organizations, animal rescuers in general have to be one of the most effectively networked interest groups in the world. The network is broad and deep, cutting across economic, political, social and national boundaries. It is a purpose-built network that is much, much more than a collection of random names. It was built with the heartfelt intention of saving lives. And, while I am a focus group of one, I know that as a member of this network and as a cause-motivated shopper, in my book Zappos’ commitment to saving the lives of shelter pets is a huge plus.

Of course, it is only smart business for Zappos (or any business that wants to tap into the power of true networking) to support programs that save the lives of shelter pets. At the same time I am proud to be part of an organization like Best Friends, which has always practiced what it preaches with regard to collaboration and helping others to succeed.

The Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network of 501(c)(3) organizations dedicated to ending shelter killing is uniquely able to leverage the scale and scope of a national organization to benefit local rescue groups and shelters across the country. Consequently, smaller local rescue groups that normally can’t afford to reduce their adoption fees are empowered to save more lives through this effort.

Thank you again, Zappos, and thank you to every participating organization, as well as everyone who adopted a homeless pet over the Black Friday weekend. The promotion wasn’t only a smashing success for our Network partners, it enabled hundreds of Best Friends animals to find their forever homes. In total, across all of our adoption centers from L.A. to the Sanctuary in Utah, and from Salt Lake City all the way to New York City, we facilitated 518 adoptions. At our NKLA Pet Adoption Center in West Los Angeles, we had a hard time keeping up with demand, as you can see in this photo.

Together, we can Save Them All.

Best Friends Animal Society

Best Friends is a nonprofit organization building no-kill programs and partnerships nationwide, all coordinated from our Kanab, Utah headquarters - the largest no-kill sanctuary for homeless companion animals.

At the core of our work is the dream that one day kindness will replace cruelty, and animals will no longer be destroyed because they are unwanted or imperfect. Spaying and neutering will be the rule for all pets and adoption from local animal shelters and rescues will be the first option for everyone. Those same shelters and rescues will have the knowledge and resources to help rehabilitate special-needs animals and find the right family for every animal.
