Zeus, A Three Week Old Maggot Wound Puppy

ZEUS, A THREE WEEK OLD MAGGOT WOUND PUPPY

This is Zeus, a Singapura Special puppy. He was rescued on 3 October at Sungei Gedong Road, when he was about three weeks old.

When we brought Zeus back to the SPCA, he was examined by our vet and was found with a huge maggot wound, about 4 cm with fibrosis, on the right side of his abdominal wall. Much time was spent removing the maggots and flushing the wound on a daily basis, to ensure that no foreign matter and dead tissue remained in the open wound.

As Zeus was very young then, staff took turns to monitor him regularly, to ensure that he did not go into shock, after the removal of the wound. We also had to ensure that he was eating and drinking well and that he was not vomiting. Zeus toileting was also under observation and monitored throughout his recovery process.

Zeus is currently under foster care and developing into a well-mannered canine citizen, under his fosterers guidance. He will soon be ready for adoption and if you would like to provide him with a forever home, please get in touch with us at enquiries@spca.org.sg

Zeus is just one of our many residents that require intensive medical care and attention.

We hope that with the increase in the capacity of our clinic in the near future, by recruiting additional veterinary staff and installing additional housing units in our animal recovery rooms, these moves will allow us to provide quality healthcare to more animals in need.

We look forward to your support at our Tux for Tails benefit gala dinner on Saturday, 2 December at The St Regis Singapore. For details on the gala event, please click onto http://spca.org.sg/whatson_details.asp?id=224
