For cats, scratching to keep their claws in shape is as necessary as eating and breathing. Their claws are used daily for multiple purposes such as climbing, pouncing, and balancing. Cats are clean creatures, and self-grooming is part of their daily routine. Hence, they scratch objects to keep their claws in order.
Also, providing a scratching post will prevent your cats from damaging your furniture. If they are still scratching a specific part of the furniture, owners may temporarily apply double-sided tape where your cats usually scratch. This will discourage your cats from scratching the furniture and causing further damage.
