Gunung Lesong National Park, also commonly known as Bukit Lingga, like other totally protected areas in Sarawak, has outstanding natural and cultural resources. The legendary mountain is traditionally known as a sacred mountain for the Iban community particularly, during the era of head hunting.

In those days, many people around Gunung Lesong would climb up the mountain top and perform the divine offering (nampok), seeking for the spiritual power for use at communal warfare or something valuable from the gods or deities.

According to the Iban mythology, the grassland at mountain top was the spiritual site for cock fighting arena (kelang sabung ayam) of the people of Panggau Libau (spiritual longhouse of Keling). The mountain is also home to a viable population of orangutan.
