Today we celebrate a major symbol of the climate crisis: the Polar Bear. These snow-coated Arctic giants are the masters of their icy environment and have no natural enemies. They are however, incredibly dependent on sea ice for survival, making them highly vulnerable to the effects of global warming which has affected the Arctic the most.

As a result of polar ice caps melting, Polar Bear numbers have plummeted in the wild and many have been pushed into urban areas. Ravenous and starving, the bears move ashore to scavenge for food which brings them into contact with human populations, especially when garbage and food are not stored properly. These majestic apex predators are now facing an extinction race.

Hari ini kita menyambut simbol utama krisis iklim: Beruang Kutub. Gergasi Arktik bersalut salji ini adalah raja alam sekitar berais dan tidak mempunyai musuh semulajadi. Walau bagaimanapun, mereka sangat bergantung kepada ais laut untuk terus hidup, menjadikan mereka sangat terdedah kepada kesan pemanasan global yang paling menjejaskan Arktik.

Akibat pencairan topi ais polar, bilangan Beruang Kutub telah merosot di habitat liar dan banyak terpaksa ke kawasan bandar. Dalam kelaparan yang teramat, mereka terpaksa pergi ke darat untuk mencari makanan dan ini menyebabkan mereka berhubung dengan populasi manusia, terutamanya bila sampah dan makanan tidak disimpan dengan betul. Pemangsa puncak megah ini sedang menghadapi perlumbaan kepupusan.
