Happy Tales Mochi. Mochi Was Adopted From Spca Sin..

HAPPY TALES: MOCHI

“Mochi was adopted from SPCA Singapore on 6 Oct 2019 at four months old. A few years ago, we saw SPCA’s Facebook advertisement on a children’s holiday programme called ‘Aniversity’. Through Aniversity, my kids learnt more about SPCA and animal welfare. They also learnt to open their hearts to all dog breeds including Singapore Specials. After the programme, they brought home a book titled ‘Toby Wants A Home!’, which inspired us to adopt a shelter dog.

When we first saw Mochi, she was alone at a corner. The connection between her and my two older daughters was instant. A staff brought her out and she shivered until she peed on the floor! Still, we were firm with our decision and signed the papers to welcome her home. That weekend, we carried her into the car and she was so unsure of her surroundings. We thought, this little pup sure needs a good bath!

When we reached home, Mochi squeezed herself underneath our shoe rack. Having four boisterous children didn’t help, but my kids were cooperative and gave Mochi ample time to get comfortable. She took two months to warm up. With Mochi, we’ve become more active as a family — we bring her out for longer walks, explore outdoor areas and parks, and go to pet-friendly cafes! The children also take turns to change her soiled pee pads, bring her for walks, or give her baths.

We grew up with purebred dogs and were initially skeptical about adopting a street dog. On the contrary, Mochi fits our lifestyle perfectly. She can be calm and easygoing, or playful and adventurous. She rarely barks unless she feels threatened — she’s still afraid of our condominium’s gardener or children playing football.

She has her ups and downs just like any dog, from getting overly excited when she sees other dogs to eating things she’s not allowed to eat. But as experienced dog owners, we know that’s part and parcel of learning to be lifelong companions. Mochi taught my children to have compassion for the unwanted or abused street dogs and my children influenced us as parents. Thank you, SPCA, for your educational efforts. And thank you Toby — because of your story, we adopted Mochi. God bless.” – with love, the Ng family.
