[HAPPY TALES: PENNY, ADOPTED BY CATE AND DARRELL]

When we first saw Penny, she was sitting alone in her kennel. She didn’t growl or bite; she seemed sad, like she wanted a forever home. When we picked her up, she seemed so at ease that we knew she would be part of our family.

We took Penny to a dog ophthalmologist who confirmed she is completely blind in one eye; she has a genetic condition called lens luxation. Sometimes she runs into our furniture but shakes it off and comes back with a toy.

We are blessed to have found her. She has helped us to be more active and to get away from our work computers. I was sick on the couch one day and she slept next to me. She’s fantastic with kids so we always ask parents if they’d like their children to learn about her, hoping that Penny will help them understand dogs.
