We might ban the wildlife trade for now, but we might see another pandemic in the future if we refuse to address factory farming and the welfare of farm animals. To prevent this, we need to:
• REDUCE the consumption of meat and animal products.
• PHASE OUT conventional factory farms.
• SUPPORT higher welfare standards in farming, e.g. free-range and cage-free poultry farms.
• REPLACE conventional ways of raising animals for meat with lab-grown clean meat and plant-based meat.
• GO PLANT-BASED for the environment, animals, peace, and health.
The 3 main ecological risk factors for Zoonotic diseases globally are factory farming, free-range farming and wildlife and game farming (WHO/FAO/OIE, 2004).
Agriculture expansion and intensification to meet animal protein demand is a major driver for zoonotic disease emergence (WHO/FAO/OIE, 2004).
If you’re not bothered about animals then do it for yourself, do it for your family, do it for humanity.
