Kitten's Anal Prolapse Surgery Graphic. In Februar..

KITTEN’S ANAL PROLAPSE SURGERY [GRAPHIC]

In February, this sweet little kitty was brought to us with a prolapsed rectum (when part of the rectum protrudes from the anus). His owner, who is of low income, was unable to afford the procedure required in a private clinic. This condition is a common occurrence in cats, and young cats are more susceptible due to cases of severe diarrhoea or urinary and intestinal infections.

For the treatment, sugar was used to reduce the size of the prolapse via osmosis (cool stuff!). The syringe, as seen in the photo, was inserted as a guide for the vets to ensure that the suture size was just right for the kitten to still be able to ‘pass motion’.

Kitty also had to consume deworming medications and laxatives to prevent the problem from recurring. He was definitely a champ, having to undergo surgery not just once but TWICE! Fortunately, the second surgery was a success and through the love and care of his fosterers, kitty is now looking at a full recovery and is as playful as can be.
