HAPPY TALES: MADAME CURIE, ADOPTED BY MANFRED

“Dear SPCA, we moved from Germany to Singapore to work at A*STAR in 2007 and adopted 3-year-old Chessy from SPCA after our 17-year-old cat passed away. Cheesy was very shy and hid under our bed for three days when we brought her home. But with time, she accepted her new name — Madame Curie.

After 11 years in Singapore, we brought Madame back with us to Germany. Departing the 32˚C climate from Changi Airport and arriving in the -1˚C snow in Berlin was somehow strange for Madame. After some time in Berlin, we moved to our place in Heidelberg. Madame was on a train for 6 hours — totally new for a Singaporean cat. She now lives with us in Heidelberg. Although she’s more sociable, she still runs away when strangers come near, especially when the doorbell rings. Although she has adapted well, I think she misses Singapore’s temperature. She meows a lot, loves lying in the sun, and always reminds us of the great time we had in Singapore.

Due to COVID-19, Madame Curie is surprised that we are at home all the time and that it’s very calm outside because non-essential shops are closed. She hopes spring will come soon. The first picture shows Madame on the balcony table, still looking for sunny spots.

Many thanks to SPCA for giving us such a lovely animal. Best wishes to you, your family, friends, and colleagues. Stay healthy.” – Manfred & Dagma
