Brave Kitty Recovers After Amputation. This Newbor..

BRAVE KITTY RECOVERS AFTER AMPUTATION

This newborn kitten was rescued by SPCA when he was only 5 days old!

Did you know that a common complication for kittens after birth is the entanglement of their umbilical cord around one of their limbs?

That is exactly what happened to this little fella. Our clinic had to amputate the deformed, rotting leg on that same day to prevent bacteria from spreading to the rest of his body.

Young animals are not able to regulate their body temperature as well as adults, hence the most challenging part of administering anaesthesia is making sure they stay warm. To take care of this, the team set up a heat mat for him to lay on during and after surgery. They also gently blew dry the kitten to make sure he remained toasty and safe.

Believe it or not, the last picture is of the same kitten (not so small anymore) just three months later. He has since recovered, found his forever family, and is as active and playful as can be!
