The month of May is officially recognised as the #NationalChipYourPetMonth in the USA. In countries like Thailand, microchipping is not a common practice due to the costs involved as well as the free mixing of owned dogs and street dogs. Here, at Soi Dog Foundation, however, microchipping is a very important part of our shelter management to keep track of the hundreds of animals that come through our gates, every year.
Microchipping is also vital to our adoption process, especially for international adoptions as no animal can leave Thailand without a valid microchip.
In this video, our International Director of Animal Welfare, Dr. Ala talks about microchipping and its importance within the hospital and sanctuary while our adoptions manager, Laura, talks about how microchips helps the adoption process as well as its importance for all pet owner, irrespective of where you are, to ensure that your pets are safe and can be returned in the unfortunate even they go missing.
If your pet’s microchip is not registered with your local database, please make this a priority and speak to your veterinarian about registering your pet’s chip under your name.
