Today Is Worldprimateday. Malaysia Has The Second ..

Today is #WorldPrimateDay

Malaysia has the second highest number of primate species in Asia – 25 species. They include Tarsiers, Slow Lorises, Macaques, Langurs, Surilis, Gibbons, Proboscis Monkeys, and of course, the Orangutan.

1) All our Gibbons are listed as Endangered by the IUCN, and Orangutans are Critically Endangered.

2) Besides the issue of deforestation, our primates fall victim to poachers who take the babies to sell in the illegal wildlife pet trade.

What can you do?

Report any sale of primates to the authorities. Primates are not pets.

Support the NGOs working hard to conserve them. Check out Malaysian Primatological Society, PONGO Alliance, Langur Project Penang – LPP, or Gibbon Conservation Society, spread the message, or donate.
