[WORLD WILDLIFE DAY] WHY FEED COMMUNITY ANIMALS BUT NOT WILDLIFE?

Some may have good intentions by wanting to feed wild animals. However, feeding wildlife causes numerous issues and negative consequences for the animals. For example, their population may increase resulting in complaints from the public, and leading to culling operations being carried out. Feeding also alters animal behaviour which will cause more human-wildlife conflict.

SPCA recently wrote a piece about this issue. Visit https://bit.ly/wildlifefeedingcna to read about the ills of wildlife feeding.

Our community cats and dogs, who are domesticated animals, are not part of this wildlife ecosystem. Hence, you can feed them responsibly (clearing up after doing so). Our community animal numbers are also managed through sterilisation programmes like the TNRM (Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage) initiative for dogs and Stray Cat Sterilisation Programme (SCSP) for cats. These efforts aim to humanely reduce the populations over time. After sterilisation, these animals will be placed for adoption or released at the location where they were found to live out their lives.

Help our wildlife by doing what’s best for them. 💙
