Truck Carrying 69 Dogs Dumps Them At Shelter. Give..

TRUCKFULL OF SICK DOGS DUMPED: URGENT

Give Me A Paw in Lebanon is one of the Harmony Fund’s partners who need our help today. This is the first of three emergencies we are trying to address this week. We can not share most of the photos as they are too graphic. The full story is below and donations can be made here: https://harmonyfund.org/donation/help-dogs-lebanon/

“On Saturday, we arrived to our shelter to a horrific tragedy. Around 80 sick dogs, many on the verge of death, suffering from severe cases of scabies, mange and distemper, were dumped at the doors of our shelter,”

“These dogs were at a hoarder “shelter” where they were neglected and abused for months, until residents forced them to kick them out, and somehow got dumped outside our shelter in Nahr Ibrahim run by one woman, who kept on taking in large numbers of dogs. There are claims that this woman hoarded a total of 250 dogs, but so far there is no tangible evidence of the total number (except for the 69 dumped ones at GMAP).

Considering the dogs’ conditions, they must have been neglected for months. People in Nahr Ibrahim were starting to complain about the situation and the smell of dead dogs, so another shelter was willing to take them in. On Friday, July 15th, those dogs were supposed to be relocated. A rescuer who arrived to the original “shelter“, saw the 69 dogs being loaded onto a truck and tried to provide for them during the drive.

She insisted to stop at a vet and at a vet clinic, where the dogs were given Nexgard and tested for Distemper. At least 10 dogs were on the verge of death, one even gave birth to dead puppies on the horror truck. Some of these dogs should have been immediately admitted to the clinic, and not left on this death truck.

On the way to the safe location, for whatever reason the horror truck was intercepted. The dogs could not be taken to their new location and instead were dropped in front of Give Me a Paw shelter. This all happened in the middle of the night.

At 7am, the founder of GMAP arrived to feed the GMAP dogs and found the dumped dogs and a group of residents threatening to shoot these dogs. The dogs were scattered all around the forest that is surrounding the Give Me a Paw shelter. The GMAP dogs as well as the wildlife in the forest are still in danger to be exposed to deadly viruses and diseases, the dumped dogs carry.

We managed to find and capture 59 dogs, thanks to the support of volunteers and animal welfare NGOs. Some vets also appeared on the scene to help and begin treatment on site. An animal lover offered his land in the South as a temporary solution to isolate and start treating the dogs until a more permanent solution is found. We secured a truck and transported the dogs there.

This disaster is tremendous. First to all the wildlife in the area that can be exposed to these contagious diseases, second to our 70+ residents in the shelter, and lastly to all the dumped dogs who need so much medical attention and ultimately a safe shelter to stay.

We need urgent help. We are a small, understaffed shelter and have been drowning in debt and struggling to make ends meet before this crisis. Now we truly need all the help we can get.

We need so much medication to treat these dogs as they all suffer from skin diseases, are ridden with fleas and ticks and are severely emaciated. We need the basics, food and water, and ultimately once they heal we will need to make space to shelter some of these dogs.

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
