Our Zorro died. He was with us for six years and was one of the sweetest dogs. Apparently it was not tick fever that killed him. An X-ray indicated that he had a mass in his stomach which raptured and bled. He was given a blood transfusion from our Petey S yesterday before being sent to an ultrasound pending surgery but he died in the midst of it. But what would we need to have done in order to detect things such as this? Zorro appeared to be perfectly healthy until the day he vomitted (Friday) with no indication of anything wrong. Perhaps we should think about annual X-rays and blood tests for all our almost 200 dogs. It’s a gigantic step but something that must be seriously considered. Rest in peace Zorro, you will be terribly missed.
