Soi Dog Jonah, A Petite Yellow Lap Dog With A Hear..

Soi dog Jonah, a petite yellow lap dog with a heart of gold, finds his #furrytailending in Canada. ❤

Jonah was one of many dogs rescued from a government shelter in Nakhon Phanom after being rounded up in an exaggerated rabies scare back in 2019. Jonah and the other survivors were transferred over 1,500 kilometres to the Soi Dog shelter in Phuket for their safety.

In the very same year, Jonah made a second lengthy journey, this time across the world to Canada after being welcomed by Adopt-a-dog/Save-a-life Inc, one of our amazing partner rescues there.

Jonah was placed into a foster home until he found his perfect match with a family who love him to bits and have patiently worked through his behavioural challenges with him. Here’s a lovely update from them:

“Can I just gush about how much we love Jonah? He is just the absolute best dog – so sweet, funny, playful, and just overall so great to be around! We are so, so, so lucky to have him, and he has brought so much joy to our life. Our families love him too, even though they have to keep their distance. He has a very calming presence, which many people have noted.

Our session with [behaviourist] Joan shifted our thinking from trying to “correct” behaviour and rather learn to identify when he’s nervous or making “poor choices” and putting himself in a situation where he feels threatened. Once identified, we can take steps to distract him, or remove him from the situation. The other big takeaways we had were to actually reward his avoidance (i.e. his “good choice” making), to give him alone time, and also to not see anything wrong with just putting him away in his own room when we have people over. She also suggested some activities we could do with him to keep him active and his mind busy.

He is such a great dog. We have no issues with him whatsoever and there is nothing we want or need to change about him. He has his issues with strangers of course, but it just doesn’t bother us.

Things are going well with our cats too. One of our cats loves Jonah, lays with him, and endures licks from him. The other cat couldn’t care less about him, but she has accepted his presence in the house. We have a very good balance and harmony in our household. I just cannot emphasize enough how great he is and how much we love him.”
