PICK OF THE WEEK
FROM SPCA PENANG ANIMAL SHELTER

Hi there folks,
My name is Biggie and yes, I AM a beagle! Now I know it’s going to upset some of you so don’t cry for me cos’ I got used to the idea already. I am an abandoned dog. One day I belonged to a family with a nice home to call my own. Another day I woke up and got taken for a car ride and then before I could figure out what was happening, there I was tied with a string round my neck next to some bank with a piece of paper posted on the wall saying something about me.
Well folks, you know us beagles right? We ain’t gonna sit there and do nothing. So I yanked the string hard and escaped. I just wanted to run away from the shame of it all and the overwhelming feeling of being unwanted. My lucky stars must have been with me that day as these 3 gorgeous angels (I am a male by the way and these 3 were pretty girls) came and waited with me by the roadside.

They called the shelter for help and now, here I am. The stress of it all made my skin a bit bad—it was bad to begin with— so you have to help me with the medicines when you take me home. While waiting for that to happen, I pass my time by “singing” and playing “Bingo”. Bingo is what the kennel guy says when I can get to nip his hand playfully and then roll onto his lap. We play Bingo together for a few minutes every day. It’s the highlight of my day when that happens.
Hey wonderful person for me who is wandering lost out there …come and get me soon. I am here Latitude 5.3957 and Longitude 100.3170 or thereabouts. Biggie the Beagle

Hello people
Chelsea—that’s me and no connection to Manchester United or Arsenal or Liverpool or any ball game. That’s too rough for me. I am female Great Dane, and I move around rather slowly and gracefully. I ended up with these wonderful people at the shelter because my former owner could not afford to keep me in the apartment he was moving into. He left me in the former house with a stranger to feed me. I need looking after you see and could not do that by myself so I was doomed to be tick infested. That was truly a terrible time in my life for me to go through. I am so happy to be clean and beautiful again, thanks to the shelter staff.
My size makes it good for me to peer over the kennel walls and make sure all is well in the other kennels with the other dogs and puppies. My height serves me well too as I can talk “face to face” with the staff and people who come to visit me.
When I was brought here I did my best to escape and managed to go running down the road. However though I ran fast—I made a mistake trying to hide behind the dustbin and peeping out at the guy in blue uniform. That’s when he got me and there went my freedom.

I think I would want you to know and to realize that it is a terrible feeling to be an unwanted pet. It made me so depressed that for the first three days I just lay down on the kennel floor and got up only to eat. However I flourished under the warm love and care of the staff and volunteers at the shelter and they brought me out of my fit of depression.
They take me out for walks every day now, and spend time playing me and one of them is teaching me the Swiss-German language.
It would be nice to go home with you but oh please—not to an apartment or anywhere small. It would cramp my style too much and I would get upset again. Somewhere perhaps as far and as wide as my eyes can see?
Just know that I wait for you with hope and love…..and in the meantime I have to see to the other pups and dogs here…..Chelsea, the Great DaneSource: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150913177219972&set=a.140205684971.140013.69082364971&type=1

SPCA Penang

SPCA Penang's main objectives are to prevent the unnecessary suffering of animals and to ensure responsible pet ownership. Hence the Society acts to prevent cruelty to animals and promotes kindness towards them by fostering an intelligent public interest regarding Man's duty animals.

Though the Society is sometimes compelled to put down an animal, our work covers a much more wider scope of rescuing, rehabilitating, healing and re-homing the animals.
