When Mddb Started 17 Years Ago, We There Were Only..

When MDDB started 17 years ago, we there were only handful of registered animal welfare organisations. Everyone worked hard with the main aim and intention being to becoming the voice of the voiceless.

The small group of independent rescuers then were also genuine people who worked quietly and stoically rescuing, rehoming and feeding street animals.

In about 2011 and 2012 the animal welfare movement grew bigger but unfortunately it also became a platform for charlatans and scammers to make a quick buck using animals.

Today the situation has gone out of control with many scams taking place amidst an increase in ‘full-time’ rescuers and ‘feeders’ who mint money out of dogs and cats kept in small and corrugated cages in dinghy surroundings.

People too tend to fall easily for dramatics entwined with tales of personal suffering and ‘sacrifices’.

‘Pound rescues’ have also become a good money generator for some of these charlatans with donors simply giving without seeking any follow-ups on the fate of the ‘rescued’ dogs.

So, what are the consequences, of the dastardly conduct by these so-called champions of animal welfare who have only enriched themselves through these unfortunate animals, on genuine animal rescue groups dependent on public help?

We are dying because of lack of funds as we are not able to feed our dogs, pay our bills and most importantly pay our workers’ salaries.

Our only fault is our inability to churn out dramatics and project ourselves as angels.

So, what do we do at this juncture?

The best option would be to close operations and call it quits? But what will become of our 400-odde dogs?

Where will they go?

Hence, if there are any shelters willing to absorb our dogs or take over MDDB, please reach out to us.

We just cannot anymore. Thank you for reading.

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better is a canine welfare programme initiated by non-profit organisation Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII).

MDDB's main activities revolve around rescuing dogs from the local council pounds as well as off the streets. Once they have been rescued, the dogs are vaccinated and neutered before being put up for adoption.
