🐾 Cross-border knowledge exchange for better stray management 🐾
During our recent Potong Royong, we hosted a special sharing session with the College of Veterinary Medicine, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) in Taiwan, StrayLOHAS (浪愛無國界) team.
Led by Dr. Lin Shiun-Long, StrayLOHAS has been tackling Taiwan’s stray animal challenges for over 15 years through TNVR — Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return — especially in remote areas. Their slogan, “Uterus in exchange for lives”, reflects their mission: preventing unwanted litters to save more lives.
💡 What they do in Taiwan
• Spayed/neutered 5,400+ cats and dogs over the past 4 years.
• Operate Taiwan’s first dedicated stray animal medical centre, providing the same high-quality care pets with owners receive.
• Provide free vaccinations to around 1,200 shelter animals yearly to reduce disease risk.
• Run public education campaigns, exhibitions, and workshops to reduce pet abandonment.
• Collaborate with veterinary faculties in Vietnam, Thailand, and NGOs to improve stray welfare across Asia.
Our exchange session allowed us to share how Potong Royong™ works in Malaysia, especially in engaging communities that are not in the medium- to high-income bracket. In turn, we learned how StrayLOHAS integrates veterinary training, public education, and international partnerships into their stray management work.
This knowledge-sharing strengthens both our approaches and opens the door to future regional collaboration — because stray population control is not just a local issue, but a shared responsibility. 🌏🐶🐱
