APPEAL FOR WITNESSES

Yet another physically abused cat has been found, just two nights ago (Thurs, 18 Sep), in Jurong West. (We thank our informer and also Mr Benjamin Lim for alerting the Cat Welfare Society (CWS) and us to this.)

The latest feline victim, perceived to be a sweet, friendly cat, was found with several long, deliberate cuts on its body, and in an extremely weak and slightly drenched condition. Stitches were seen on the cats nose and many parts of its body.

The cat was taken to a vet clinic, shortly after it was found in that condition.

Upon closer examination, the cat was found to have had its whiskers snipped off. Several injuries were found on parts of the cats body, as follows:

slash wounds on the nose region

severe cut across its throat region

long, clean cuts mainly on the body

glue-like substance that has hardened on the crown of its head

near-detached ear that was held together by the glue-like substance (which would need to be amputated, according to the vets assessment)

The cat is currently under the care of the vet team in Point Veterinary clinic. It will be undergoing surgery involving the removal of the glue-like substance and stitches from its body.

The cat is also recovering at the vet clinic, and its condition is presently stable.

The AVA and the police have also been notified about this case, and are looking into the matter.

We believe the cats earlier condition to be due to the cruel act done by a person as the cats physical injuries clearly appear to be wilfully inflicted.

SPCA and CWS are appealing to the public for any information or witnesses who may be able to identify the culprit(s) responsible so that necessary action can be taken against them. If you can help, please call the SPCA at 6287 5355 ext 9, any time.

SPCA and CWS wish to remind all pet owners too to keep their own cats strictly INDOORS for their own safety from potential accidents or abuse. Also, cruelty to animals is not condoned, under the Animals and Birds Act, and offenders will be charged in court.

In Singapore, cruelty to animals is a crime. Under the Animals and Birds Act, anyone who is found guilty of such an offence including abandonment of any animal, can be imprisoned for up to 12 months, fined up to S$10,000, or both.

* Please share this post, to raise awareness of this case and issue.
