Owning a dog requires a commitment of time, energy and money. This is a long term commitment because a dog can live for ten or more years and will rely upon his owner for almost all of his needs for his entire life.

This Golden Retriever was recently surrendered to MPSP Dog Pound by his owner. The owner apparently could no longer tolerate the dog�s skin problem which seems never-ending and so he decided to discard him just like he is a piece of unworthy trash!

Let us share with you a little insight of a pound, and perhaps after knowing the reality, you may just change your mind about abandoning your pet next time.

Your pet will be confined to a small kennel with about 10-15 other barking or crying animals. It will have to relieve itself where it eats and sleeps. It will be depressed and it will cry constantly for the family that abandoned it. Your pet will get no special attention besides having a bowl of food slid under the kennel door and the waste sprayed out of its pen with a high-powered hose.

Any dogs showing sign of illness will be destroyed because there are no funds to pay for treatment. And believe us, living in such terrible condition, it�s just a matter of time before dogs start to give in and fall sick.

Don�t ever be so naive to think that, �Ohh�we know he�ll get adopted � he�s a good dog.� Odds are your pet won�t get adopted. And we hope that the owner of this Golden Retriever read this. But probably he won�t even care. After all, it�s just an animal, and he can always buy another one, right?

Truth hurts and reality is what it is. We hope that this write-up will enlighten more people and change their minds about surrendering their loving pet to the pound.

If you think you might not want to keep your pet for its entire life, then for God�s sake, don�t get one in the first place!

With lesser strays or no strays at all, the loving value of animals will be greatly increased and you can be sure that humans will shower more love for their pets and be responsible pet owners. The problem should not only be shouldered by our Society as the public must also understand the urgent need to control the pet population and give their whole-hearted support to all our projects for the undertaking to be successful. Then we will achieve a clean and hygienic environment for the community. As a no killing organization, we are embarking on a two-prong approach towards the problem i.e public education and sterilization of the stray animals.
