Rescue Multiplies When Two Horses Saved from Slaughter Soon Give Birth

______________________________________________________

Nancy Jakeman of Queensland, Australia wrote to us today to share her experience of a rescue mission that quickly multiplied.

“A few months ago I was with my friend Marlene and visiting her sister,” Nancy said. “The sister’s husband had just been taken into Care and she herself was not well. She told us that two of their old draft horse mares were to be sent to the knackery (slaughter house).”

“She was visibly upset,” Nancy continues. “Although I have no acreage I immediately knew I was to rescue them. We picked them up by float and transported them to my son’s place for he has a small acreage which I thought might do for the moment. By and by, one mare had a filly, a beautiful little angel with a full circle upon her brow. So I wondered about the other mare. Sure enough she presented us with a colt. I don’t have them any more. They have been handed on to wonderful people who love horses. If I hadn’t made the effort as I did, four beautiful horse beings would have been lost to Earth.”

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
