EVER WONDERED ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF VOLUNTEERING?

The word �volunteer� originates from the old French word �voluntaire� (now volontaire). The volunteering service began in C.1600, when people offered themselves for military service.

The idea of volunteering grew significantly in the 19th Century, and continues to gather support worldwide. Volunteering is now recognised all over the world, and most countries include voluntary service in their education system as �service learning� or �community service�.
