NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 14 AUGUST 2015
1. (Top left) Groucho is a handsome nightjar who got lost at the stairwell of an HDB block. He decided to just sit and rest in the corridor, and help arrived in the form of a concerned passerby who alerted us. With a little lift, Groucho flew away well.
2. (Middle left) Boo and Buffy are two insectivorous bats who flew into someone’s 11th storey HDB flat. Thanks to the residents for calling our hotline, both were safely released outside. When bats get grounded by mistake they will be unable to take to the air again, unless they get to a height that is suitable for taking off. Sometimes they just need a little help to send them on their way!
3. (Bottom left) Spike is an (adorable looking) rock pigeon who chose to sleep on someone’s air con compressor for the night. The kind resident was concerned that Spike could be injured. Thanks to her (and the house cat) for keeping an eye on Spike and letting him stay there for the night! Happily, the caller updated us that Spike took off fine in the morning. Every caller helps to play a vital role in assessing a case, and helping to determine whether or not an animal needs rescue in the first place!
4. (Right) Bob and Kevin are two scops owl fledglings who were upset that they got lost early in the morning. They were found clicking their little beaks and trying to look bigger than they are– all in vain, as the residents could easily tell that the little fluff balls were lost! The concerned residents not only tried their best to move Bob and Kevin to safety, but also alerted us to the presence of the parent owl. We were happy to finally move Bob and Kevin up to a safe place beside their parent!
Do remember to call the ACRES 24-hour Wildlife Rescue Hotline at 9783 7782 if you spot any wild animals in Singapore who may need some help.
