NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 04 SEPTEMBER 2015
1. This little starling was disorientated, grounded and was unable to fly. Perhaps he flew into a wall/glass panel; we dont know for sure. The caller in this case was extremely helpful, making sure the starling could rest in a quiet environment until we arrived. Thankfully, the starling didnt suffer any injuries and flew away after some rest. Our heartfelt thanks to the caller for helping the bird!
2. Lori is an adult nightjar who became stranded within a built-up environment. Birds do not recognise transparent glass surfaces and may try to fly through them, injuring themselves in the process. Nightjars are nocturnal birds, and this can make it worse. Thanks to the member of public for calling us to help, Lori was rescued and thankfully unhurt, and was soon good to go back to the wild!
3. Rail is a young reticulated python who chose to rest on the handrail at an HDB stairwell – giving a scare to the residents in the early hours of a weekday morning! Thanks to the understanding residents who waited for us, Rail was soon relocated to a suitable habitat.
4. Blob is an adult spotted dove, who got stranded inside someones house in the ceiling. Blob had a swelling on his head, possibly caused by knocking into the glass/wall. Fortunately, the swelling subsided and Blob wasnt suffering from internal injuries. Blob was successfully released back to the wild!
Do remember to call the ACRES 24-hour Wildlife Rescue Hotline at 9783 7782 if you spot any wild animals in Singapore who may need some help.
