NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 29 JANUARY 2016
1. Little Tanglin (top left) was lost in the basement car park of a condo. She isn’t a baby, but not yet a fully grown adult. The security officers on duty were extremely concerned for her well-being and patiently kept an eye on her until we arrived. Tanglin was successfully rescued and moved to a forested area with thick vegetation outside the condo – a much better place for her to forage for food!
2. Gooey (bottom left) is a wolf snake who was stuck on a lizard glue trap. We have shared several times about how cruel glue traps are, and continue to call for total ban on the sale and use of glue traps. Gooey was probably in pursuit of a lizard or a gecko and got stuck to the glue. Thankfully, we were alerted to Gooey’s plight, and Gooey was set free following some careful removal of the glue.
3. Mermaid (right) is a reticulated python who was found under the concrete at a canal widening project site. At first the workers were frightened of the large python. However, Mermaid then moved into a deep puddle of water from which she couldn’t find her way out due to the ongoing dredging works. The initial fear experienced by the workers regarding her presence then turned to concern for the snake, and they worked alongside with us for more than hour to get Mermaid to a safer place, by emptying as much of the water as possible. We’re pleased to report that Mermaid was successfully rescued and relocated.
