Pets for Vets

May 30th was Memorial Day in the United States, a day for the country to recognise its veterans. Many veterans are still struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety. One woman, Clarissa Black, had a great idea — pairing rescue dogs with veterans so each could help the other’s healing. And it’s working brilliantly, largely because the Pets for Vets trainers take such care to match the right dog to the right vet.

There are several lessons here � first, the message that shelter dogs are in no way less valuable, less intelligent, friendly or sensitive than other dogs. Second, it’s always important to make sure that a dog is well-suited to the adopter’s home and lifestyle, and this applies to any adoption scenario, not just Pets for Vets.
