Here’s a little trivia about dogs’ hearing range. And that is why loud noises such as the sound of fire crackers is really frightening to them.
1. Dogs can hear nearly four times better than humans – meaning sounds are four times louder to them in comparison to you.
2. The average hearing range is usually around 67 Hz to 45,000 Hz (45 kHz). Human hearing stretches from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz (or 20 kHz), but most adults actually top out at 16k Hz.
3. They have a higher hearing frequency than humans.
4. They also have a different acoustic perception of the world. Sounds that seem loud to people often have high-frequency tones that can scare dogs.
5. Even during the quiet hours of the night, it noisy for dogs, who can even hear the high-frequency pulse in digital alarm clocks and bodily vibrations of termites in the walls.
So, people – the fact is that we cannot tell you to lay off fireworks during festivals eventhough we want to. So, please keep your pets safe and secure indoors. There are just far too many lost dogs during festivals.
As for those who like blasting and burning away – we understand and agree that it is your right to do so. But please take a moment to think of the street animals that have no homes or families to keep them safe and secure. This is a community service announcement by MDDB.
