I come from a biology and chemistry background, and before joining the team you could say that my knowledge on tigers was pretty scarce.
My work now involves dealing with land use issues, using remote sensing (which relies on sensor technologies to detect and classify objects on Earth) and GIS – Geographic Information System (a computer-based tool for analyzing ground data).
Integrating both these technologies, what I do aids decision makers to better plan and monitor issues pertaining to land use. Joining WWF-Malaysia’s Tiger Conservation team has allowed me to expand my knowledge not only on tigers, but to also see the relationship between wildlife, the environment and humans.
I have learnt that every single living creature has a necessary and specific role to play on earth and hence, by loving earth, we are also loving ourselves. Eng Sue Ying, Land Use Officer
