Do You Know The Difference Between Painted Terrapi..

Do you know the difference between painted terrapins and sea turtles? While terrapins and sea turtles are often mixed up, they are very distinct from each other. Although they sometimes reside in brackets water, terrapins are predominantly freshwater species, choosing to live in rivers. On the other hand, sea turtles exclusively live in the salt water of the ocean.

Other key differences between these creatures lie in their body plans. Terrapins have flattened feet, similar to a duck’s feet, with claws at the end. This enables them to traverse both land and water. Sea turtles instead have flippers, which do not have claws, and they are unable to hold their bodies above the ground. These flippers make them strong swimmers, well-suited for marine life. One last difference between terrapins and sea turtles is the ability to retract their head into their shell — while terrapins are able to do so, sea turtles cannot.

As the population of painted terrapins is dwindling, it is essential that we protect them. Together with @coffeebeanmy, we are holding the Save Terry Campaign to help achieve this goal. For every purchase of Terry merchandise, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® will contribute 10% to the Save Terry fund. And if you purchase 4 Save Terry Enamel Pins (Terra-pins), priced at RM15 each, you’ll automatically be able to adopt a terrapin!

The Save Terry Campaign will run from 7 August – 30 September 2023. Know anyone who loves Coffee Bean? Share this post with them to spread the word!

Interested in symbolically adopting a terrapin? Each adoption is RM35, and you will receive a certificate of adoption as well as a tax-deductible receipt! Visit our website at https://www.turtleconservationsociety.org.my/terrapin-adoption/ to find out more!
