What To Do When Bringing Animals For Vaccinations / Treatment

We had quite a few occasions when owners came from far away to the shelter to have their animals vaccinated or neutered and when asked about their pets' appetite and faeces conditon, lied that their pets were eating well and faeces were normal, ie. solid and slightly moist. Most of them did so because they did not want to have to come back another time but as a responsible and loving pet owner, please take note that it is VERY important that you tell the truth because injections like vaccinations actually weaken the animal during the period when its body is learning to fight the foreign viruses and if your pet was already sick, this will worsen its condition and may even result in death.

For those bringing their animals to be neutered, a fasting period of 10 – 12 hours is required because upon sedation, the animal will vomit whatever it had eaten over the past few hours and this may choke it to death as it's lying upside down on the operating table.
