For dog and the empire! 🐕🎖️

We are pleased to share the news that, after an 18-month wait, Soi Dog co-founder John Dalley was finally able to accept his MBE for services to animal welfare this week in a private ceremony at Windsor Castle.

The MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) recognises people for outstanding achievements and service in their field. A special committee draws up the list which is then approved by the UK prime minister and, finally, by HM Queen Elizabeth II.

John was originally named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List back in October 2020. However, due to Covid restrictions, he was unable to travel to the UK to collect his medal until this week.

The medal was presented by Prince Charles who expressed his interest in the founding of Soi Dog and his admiration for our ongoing work to improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia.

“I think the award is positive for Soi Dog,” said John. “I see it more as a recognition of what has been achieved by everybody involved more than a personal award. I am obviously sad that Gill is not still alive to also receive the award.”

Thank you for supporting John, Gill and Soi Dog Foundation over the past 19 years. You have helped to achieve this magnificent honour.
