Our co-founder, Dr. Chan Eng Heng was recently featured in the State of the World’s Sea Turtles (SWOT) as a living legend! 🎉

Dr. Chan spent 10 years studying the Leatherback Turtles in Rantau Abang Terengganu, and then went on to kickstart a very much well-known and well-liked citizen science programme called the Sea Turtle Research Unit – UMT (SEATRU) Volunteer Programme. To date, more than 5,000 volunteers have participated in the one-week programme that allows members of the public to do some hands-on sea turtle conservation work in a remote part of an island!

Turtle Conservation Society

The Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia was established in October 2011. The aim of the society is to bring about the recovery of depleted wild populations of turtles, with particular reference to freshwater turtles, in Malaysia through partnerships with like-minded organizations, individuals and local communities as well as through its own programs.
