When We Seek Help, We Receive A Lot Of Goodwill Bu..

When we seek help, we receive a lot of goodwill but at the same time preaching and abuse as well. One person is saying unsavoury things against us because we are not buying the subsidised RM26 per 10 kg bag of local rice to feed our dogs. The rice is retailed at RM26 because the additional RM10 is subsidised by the government to ensure the lower income Malaysian family gets to have rice. That is why foreigners are barred from buying this rice. Malaysia is facing a serious rice shortage due to various factors. In Kedah, which was once known as the rice pot of Malaysia, the problem is due to poor irrigation and overused padi fields that are also suffering from overuse of pesticide over the years. To make matters worse, the very old irrigation structure is also resulting in the fields receiving too little water. In the North of Selangor, the seepage of seawater into the fields is posing a problem as well. Alleged dishonest practices such as packaging of local rice as imported variety is another factor causing a shortage of local rice. At the peak of the shortage many B40 families as well as those under the hardcore poor category were suffering to buy rice. Hence, after a long time the government came with the RM26 per 10 kg bag to ease their burden. This is also restricted to 5 bags per person. To tell us to send our volunteers to go and buy five bags each for our dogs is not right. This subsidised rice was meant to feed poor people and in the event the authoroties find out that animal shelters are sweeping of the supply, all hell will break loose. It will also be dishonesty on our part. You may not have a conscience about these things, but we do. How di I know this? Well, I have written at least six or seven articles on the issue. Please do not hoard rice meant for the poor. It is cruel and inhuman.
