Medical Subsidy For Dottie, Rescued Dog With Vertebrae Fracture And Spinal Compression (Meijis)

Meiji rescued a dog, now named Dottie, who had severe injuries. Dottie was brought to the UPM vet and he was diagnosed with 2nd lumbar vetebrae fracture and spinal compression. According to the vet, this condition leads to both hind limbs paresis (partial loss of voluntary movement), urinary incontinence, phimosis (unable to retract foreskin over penis) and may also lead to loss of digits if the hindlimbs are dragged and injured.

For now, Meiji needs to clean the wounds daily and bandage them. The wounds have to be gently scrubbed with diluted Hibiscrub, flushed with sodium chloride solution and iodine is to be applied onto them. Dottie also needs to wear diapers and one of our readers have pledged to donate the diapers.

If Dottie does not improve with the care above, penile amputation and limb amputation may be required, and if that happens, a wheelchair would be recommended, but we certainly hope it will not come to that.

The bill is for wound cleaning, bandages and medication, and we have subsidised RM45.75 for it.

Here are two photos of Dottie.

Get well soon, Dottie!

Meiji has to look after 134 dogs and Dottie requires special care now. She handles her whole sanctuary alone.

As a medical fund, we need to be fair to all applicants so we can only subsidise up to 50% of every bill as per our policy.

But if you would like to contribute further to help Meiji with her bills or donate diapers for Dottie, please bank in your contributions directly into her bank account:
