174 Australian Sheep Meant For Korban Ritual Did Not Survive Air Flight To Singapore

We are deeply concerned about how and why 174 sheep imported from Australia for the Korban ritual to mark Hari Raya Haji have died during the SIA Cargo flight from Perth (as reported in The Sunday Times today (5 Oct 2014)).

This was indeed the first time ever that so many animal deaths had occurred in such a consignment.

We have written in to SIA Cargo to ask for a proper investigation.

We sincerely hope that SIA Cargo could, in future, better uphold animal welfare standards in the handling and delivery of animals. Basic animal welfare, even in the shipment of animals or livestock meant for slaughter, has to apply absolutely.

We thank all concerned members of the public for their concerns and support.

SINGAPORE – A number of the 2,200 Australian sheep that arrived on Thursday for this year’s Korban rites were found dead on arrival.
