Here is Soi rescue cat Tofland to tell you about the plight that faced black cats in human history.

“Did you know that in the 13th Century mostly in Europe, cats especially black cats were persecuted in masses for alleged association with witchcraft?

Cats like me were hated and then also killed for “good luck” stemming from the same belief. Methods of persecution included burning us alive as a way to kill the evil spirit in us. This ritual also evolved into certain feasts and festivals which persisted into modern times as recent as the 18th Century.

Luckily these practices targeting cats are no longer seen, however superstitions around black cats still remain to this day, which is why #BlackCatAwarenessMonth is very important.

Spread the good word, about how wonderful black cats are by showing off your black kitties, and also by adopting a black kitty like me 😻 from a rescue” 😽
