Jilly The Cat, A Possible Hit-And-Run Case (Emi Efee’s)
12th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

I received this from Emi Efee two days ago: Hello there. I just want to ask. Can you really help to raise funds for a medical treatment? This is for a cat named Jilly. He was probably hit by a car. We found him at 12.30am this morning. He was bleading fron its mouth, nose and eyes. We took him to the vet in KL. Since it was at night, the charge for check up itself is doubled. The total cost that we have to pay now is roughly RM700. The doctor said Jilly need to go for surgery to fix his jaw. I don...

The Cow-Bunny Saga Continues…
12th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

Now I vaguely remember why I never used to like public holidays when my children were young. Somehow, they would fall sick during these holidays and we’d be at our wits’ end looking for 24-hour clinics or rushing them to the emergency ward as their paediatrician would be on leave. So I used to dread public holidays way back then. The children are grown now, but looks like the cats have picked up this trend… I think Cow & Bunny need a trip to the vet’s, so I’m re...

The First Close Encounter Of The Cow-Bunny Kind
12th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

Just now, we noticed that Cow’s right arm is swollen at the elbow. Perhaps he too got injured in last night’s fight. Soon, Tiger came to ask for his post-breakfast treat of Fussie Cat…. And Cow too came mewing for some… As soon as Bunny heard the opening of the can, he also came…so we had the first close encounter of Cow-Bunny after the fight and we held our breath… The peaceful one, peacefully eating. The warring ones…at a respectable distance. Cow s...

Updates On Sugar (Eling Chan’s)
12th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

Updates from Eling: Hi Dr. Chan, I would like to update you on Sugar’s progress.  She was discharged on the 5thDec and with me for the past week.  She is well behaved and likes staring at me but one thing she is so quiet make me feel weird on her. Is it normal?  She is good in appetite. She has a feeling of shy when her times for poo and pee and she doesn’t like me to look at her during her “business time”.  Funny…  Because I’m staying in an apartment and by myself she will...

The Aftermath Of Yesterday’s Cow-Bunny War
12th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

The sounds of Bunny vomiting on the foot of my bed woke me up this morning. However, it did not really look very serious. It wasn’t food, but just a small quantity of a slightly yellowish liquid. I felt his body and it wasn’t particularly warm. I came downstairs and Bunny ate his usual raw chicken. In fact, he asked for more. Cow was in the living room (I let him in last night, after about an hour of solitary confinement in Mac’s place), and he too walked towards the kitchen bu...

Bunny Attacked…by Cow
11th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

I knew something was not quite right with Bunny. This evening, Bunny had just finished eating and he was on his way upstairs when out of the blue, Cow suddenly got up, dashed up the stairs and before we could even shout, there were loud feline war-cries on the stairs and tufts of “white feathers” (it’s actually cat fur, but we call it “feathers”) came flying down the stairs. In those few moments, I rushed to the stairs and both of them had come down. There was no ti...

Dogs And Puppies Ok At PAWS, Etc.
11th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

The manager informed me that the 2 dogs and 8 puppies rescued from the roadside last night are all alright at PAWS. This morning, Nandhini called to say she spotted 3 puppies wandering around on Broga Hill.  Unfortunately she could not catch them, and also, I called PAWS, but their shelter is full. The consolation is that according to Nandhini, the puppies look well-fed and they are all males. Sometimes, we just cannot do everything that we wish we could, so we can only do our best.

Bunny Is Missing….(and Found!!)
11th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

It is now 2.41pm. Bunny is missing from home. This morning, Bunny did not come into the kitchen as usual for breakfast. He sat in the living room coffee table. That is not normal, so I thought he wasn’t feeling well. I brought his chicken out for him to the coffee table and he ate it all up. Later, he came into the kitchen and asked for more food. He did feel slightly warmer than usual. I had wanted to take him to the vet’s, but since he ate, I thought he was alright. I gave him Vetr...

11th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

Sudhamma Chua has the following cats for adoption: I have attached the pictures of Jessie and Bushytail. Jessie is 3 years old plus. Black and white male with a long tail. Bushytail is about 2 years old. Female, white with grey-brown patches, also with a long tail. Both spayed-neutered. Speak Up, Act Right And Lead By Example
11th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

This just came in the email and I thought it is very apt for all of us who are trying (nope, wrong choice of word), not trying, but DOING something to improve the state of animal welfare in our community and our country. From Eknath Easwaran’s Thought For the Day: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.  – attributed to Edmund Burke Some of our most trying difficulties are caused by plain old inertia. Inertia shows itself in not wanting to move, ...

Updates On Hambao (Grace Chow’s)
11th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

Hambao and Dehbao are two puppies rescued by Grace Chow and friends, who are students of UTAR in Kampar. Both puppies were sent to the vet’s. Unfortunately, Dehbao did not make it. We subsidised the first bill for the medical treatment of both. Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/12/08/sub sidy-for-two-puppies-from-kampar-grace-chows/ Hamb ao fought on and is now discharged and adopted! We will be subsidising the final bill of Hambao as well. The Verdict Is In – Canine Caviar Wins Hands Down!
10th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

If you have been following this blog, you’d know I was at my wits’ end trying to make Bobby eat many months ago. Bobby had decided he’d had enough of his previous kibble (which he had obediently consumed for more than a decade) and he only wanted stir-fried chicken breast meat (he wouldn’t touch vegetables). Even with that, which I know is not balanced, he had grown very thin. I tried various brands of kibble, but Bobby simply refused to eat any of them, preferring to sta...

S.O.S – A Family Of Puppies And Mum Abandoned Next To Shelter
10th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

UPDATES at 10.46pm – We managed to get the shelter staff to take in the puppies and the two dogs. Many thanks to Koo for responding to our appeal for help. Kudos to Nandhini and Surin for saving this family.  UPDATES at 11.15pm – The two adult dogs and 8 puppies are now safe in the shelter. Nandhini managed to coax the other adult-dog (who wasn’t very friendly) as well. The mum-dog is actually very small sized and Nandhini said she (the mum-dog) has very bad mange and her sore...

Perky And Her Bunny-Friends
10th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

Mei Leng shared these photos. It shows loyal little Perky (adopted from us more than 2 years ago), good friend and guardian to her bunny-friends.     Watching the bunnies… It is truly a joy to see Perky now, so fit, strong and healthy, a far cry from the time we rescued her from the pound and the near-death experience she faced twice – once after being spayed (she started bleeding after the vet left) and again, after transporting her back from Bentong to Subang when she ...

Journey Onwards, Floss
10th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

My friend, Kon and his family, lost their 9-year old Pinscher, Floss, this morning. Floss had undergone emergency surgery last night to address a ruptured intestine. The surgery was successful but Floss did not make it past the 24-hour critical period. Kon and his family laid Floss to rest this afternoon.  Kon said Floss’ fosterer (when the family went on holidays) also came to pay her last respects. Amidst chanting, the offering of flowers and burning of incense, Floss was laid to rest...

Rats Are Nice, Not Naughty
10th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

The days of calling an obnoxious human a “dirty rat” may be over, based on the findings below, which is illuminating (and most welcomed!). Also, to those humans who think animals are not capable of having and expressing what we humans call “humane values”, please read the link below. There is a copyright on this material, so I can only send you the link: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_SC I_NICE_RATS?SITE=INEVA&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLA TE=DEFAULT The above li...

A Hit-And-Run Cat-Victim (How Lili’s)
10th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare

A few weeks ago, How Lili called me requesting help for an accident cat-victim. Yesterday, she sent me the details. I shall publish it verbatim without editing as editing would not be able to carry the full meaning and emotions of the writer.  Only the names of clinics have been removed. Sometimes it pays to seek a second opinion. We will be subsidising this case once I receive the original receipts from Lili. Here’s Lili’s story: 3/11/11 I found the cat infront of my office hit...
