Drollus was found in the street, unconscious and bleeding from the mouth. The kind man who found him suspected he had been hit by a car and rushed him to the nearest vet clinic.
After emergency treatment, Drollus was transferred to our cat hospital for ongoing care. Apart from some mild neurological damage, he made a great recovery and was then adopted by Valerie and Nick, where he is now known as Angel and shares a wonderful forever home with his cat sibling.

FROM NEAR DEATH TO RECOVERY - MEET NEW STAR
We will never know how New Star managed to find the strength to survive such a deliberate and barbaric act of cruelty. A nasty, tortuous deed left him in agony and with a devastating wound to his face. By the time New Star was found, the elastic band that had been wrapped so tightly around his nose and mouth had cut deeply into his lip, causing it to split in two. His wound was becoming severely infected and New Star was growing weaker by the minute.

MEET RAHAYU – ACRES’S LARGEST RESCUED TURTLE
Weighing in at just over 30kg, Rahayu is the largest freshwater turtle who was rescued and currently under ACRES’s care. She was admitted to critical care with a fish hook and line. She has recovered well and Rahayu now enjoys a mixed diet of leafy greens, fruits and other food. Rahayu is an endangered animal.

Is It Pigeon English?
They may not be reading the classics yet, but a University of Otago study has revealed pigeons can learn to distinguish real words from non-words.
In the two-year research project, four Dunedin pigeons were trained to peck four letter English words on a touch screen, or peck a symbol on the screen when a four letter non-word like "mtsp" appeared.

DOGS GET THEMSELVES INTO TRICKY PREDICAMENTS TOO.
Just last week, we highlighted a case whereby a four month young kitten was rescued from a 12 storey ledge.
On Sunday, 9 October, a concerned member of the public alerted us to a case of a dog on a ledge, on the third floor of a HDB block.
The dog appeared to have pushed aside the temporary barricade that the owner placed on her service yard and could not get back in thereafter.
