A Note From The AnimalCare Exco 24th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare
In our eighth year of existence, we are heartened to see that we have helped to build a large community of caregivers of street animals who do neutering work, which in turn has increased the public’s appreciation and acceptance of neutering.
Even so, we believe it is timely for AnimalCare Neutering Fund to tighten our policy and deploy our limited funds more efficiently to those who need it most, i.e. new caregivers who are starting out and who are constrained by the lack of funds, experi...

Updates On 24th Jul 2017 24th Jul 2017, by SPCA Selangor
"Saving one animal will not change the world, but surely for that one animal, its world will change forever.”
Newborn kittens and puppies are constantly dumped in SPCA. They are dumped without their mothers, therefore leaving them with a low chance of survival as they need constant feeding and care. We need your help to foster them temporarily as we as lack of nursing mom cats/dogs and we as SPCA staffs, are short-handed in caring for all animals at the same time as well.
With your help, y...

Rabbit Care. Contrary To The Common Misconceptions.. 24th Jul 2017, by SPCA Singapore
RABBIT CARE
Contrary to the common misconceptions that rabbits are easy to care for and good starter pets, they are actually highly intelligent, social and require almost as much effort as taking care of a dog.
If you have a pet rabbit, please ensure that he/she has access to hay at all times. Hay has high fibre content, which provides roughage and reduces danger of blockages such as hairballs.
To learn more about rabbit care, do have a read of the details at http://www.spca.org.sg/pdf/Pe...

Photos From SPCA Penang's Post 24th Jul 2017, by SPCA Penang
My dog Mocha
After volunteering for 5 Saturdays in the SPCA - getting to know the dogs, and deciding if I was really ready to adopt a pet – we finally brought Mocha (formally known as Taffy) home on April 1st, 2017. She was an active and friendly puppy in the SPCA (which is what I wanted in a dog), but became even more active and friendly at home.
She loves to play and go for walks in the nearby field. She has already learnt how to sit and lie down before receiving food and treats. She even...

Our Cats’ Verdict On Gold-D (the New Catfood In Town) 24th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare
Many cats like to eat fish. Our cats do too.
But we read about tuna (and even possibly, salmon) being toxic these days due to their higher position on the food chain and the quantity of toxins and heavy metals found in them is supposedly at a dangerously toxic level.
PETA’s top 10 reasons not to eat tuna: https://www.peta.org/living/food/top-10 -reasons-eat-tuna/
I have been looking for fish catfood that is made from smaller fish as we are told that smaller fish may be less toxic (th...

Domesticating Mr Zurik (!) 24th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare
Of course it’s impossible to domesticate any cat!
I’ve been trying to get Mr Zurik to come inside and stay indoors, but it hasn’t been very successful.
He’ll just oblige for a few hours at most then he gets very restless and wants to go out.
The other day, I achieved about 6 hours of keeping him indoors, but by midnight, he came upstairs to wake me up and started scratching at the wirenetting to be let out.
Maybe he still has a home to go back to.
Nowadays, he doesn&rsq...

The Many Faces Of Tabs 24th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare
Tabs has really cute big eyes, but it’s not easy to catch her in those poses.
I managed to, a few days ago…
Crossed hands.
My next challenge is to take a video of Tabs doing the catwalk. She does it like a supermodel!
Make your big eyes, Tabs…
Ah, yes…but this is a shocked look.
Still shocked.
Slitty eyes…
We’ll try another day, Tabs.

Daffodil’s Updates 24th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare
Her Royal Daffodil-ness.
She’s all settled in these days.
Sometimes, the tumour bursts and bleeds. I’ll just clean it up and each time this happens, it shrinks a little, so I suppose that’s good too. I think the Bioresis, being an immune booster is keeping any sort of infection at bay.
Daffodil’s pattern of eating is that she gets very hungry in the evening and will ask for small amounts of food every 1-2 hours. She eats Cubgrub (the raw food based on Dr Lisa Pierson&r...

Tiger’s Updates 24th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare
With the slight increase of his Prochlorperazine dosage, Tiger seems to be happier and has been coming out of his tv rack quite a bit.
The seizures, however, have not stopped. It averages at twice a day. Previously, it was 3-4 times a day.
We achieved a sort of “breakthrough” yesterday when he rediscovered his basket in the kitchen. He also comes to the kitchen to eat with everyone these days.
Sometimes, he lies on his sand litter as well.
It’s good that he gets some sun the...
