Looking After A Loyal Friend
11th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Bobby is 15 years old and blind now (because of cataracts). He is still quite perky, especially when I come home from work - that's when you'll see him bouncing up and down like a little puppy, getting all excited and (unfortunately) banging into the furniture legs and the wall (but no serious injuries, just a bump here and there). Bunny and Tiger are his "buffers". They will shield him from bumping into the walls whenever they see him approaching one. I call them Bobby's "seeing cats"! But...

Visiting Karuna
11th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Here are some pictures taken over two trips to my mum's place: Hi, Karuna! My children and husband, meeting Karuna for the first time. My mum is concerned why Karuna sits this way (look at her hind legs). She cannot seem to stretch her legs out. But I think it's a small worry for such an old dog. Still, I'll ask the vets when I next see them. But she can sit this way, which looks more comfortable. There's no need for a cage because my mum would just leash her at the gril...

DonDon, RayRay And Mimi
10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Here are some pictures I took two days ago when I visited DonDon and friends at the clinic. DonDon was one of the Popsicles dumped at my front gate many weeks ago. Alex, the clinic assistant adopted DonDon and made him the new clinic cat, in place of Dodo (who passed away of kidney failure at the age of 12).I think you can see from the photographs what a cheeky little thing DonDon is. His mentor is RayRay.  Playing peek-a-boo with RayRay. He's been trying very hard to win over Mim...

A True Labrador Never Stops Wagging His/her Tail
10th Aug 2011, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal

The dark cloud has still not lifted and I am still encountering very challenging and heart breaking cases for my 4th week straight. I really need a few good winners to brighten up my spirit. Just got back from an afterhours emergency call and it is almost 1 a.m., my patient is stable and has gone home but I will be readmitting her for full workup tomorrow morning! Now back to my heartbreaking case of today. Two days ago, we admitted ‘Boss’, a lovely 10-year-old male desexed labr...

Two Sad Cases
10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Today seems to be a day of sad news.First, a rescuer contacted me yesterday about the case of a dog she was asked to rehome from a well-to-do family. The family had purchased the dog, but were not willing to treat the dog for a skin problem. Before this rescuer could find a home for the dog, she heard that the family had sent the dog to the shelter because they decided they did not want the dog anymore. She asked if I could help check with the vet (I only know one vet there) if there is such a d...

Mimi, Mayo's Resident Cat, On Drips
10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I just heard the Mimi, Mayo's resident cat has been put on drips. Don't have any other details.Dodo, Mimi's brother, just passed away last month of sudden kidney failure. They are the same age.Mimi, photo taken just two days ago, when I went to the clinic. Please pray for Mimi to be well and free from suffering.P.S. It is really sad that we seem to be hearing quite a few cases of kidney failure. I suppose it happens as a cat ages or for those who have been born as strays. When I visited the other...

Visit From Fairview International School Students - July 18, 2011.
10th Aug 2011, by SPCA Penang

Nineteen students and 2 teachers from Fairview International School made a trip to the SPCA on 18th July. Their visit was to work on a project and present to their school what they have learnt. Their visit was to gather information on what NPO like ours is all about and how we exist to help the community. It was a great visit as the students had fun time with the animals at the shelter. Following that, they initiated a fundraising event in their school and raised a sum of RM743 towards the...

Genuinely lost or abandoned by their owners? This female labrador was found roaming for 5 days near a coffee shop along Bukit Jambul. She was brought in on 31.7.11. We are not certain if she is genuinely lost. We appeal to anyone who happens to know her owner, kindly inform her owner. We named her, Moni and have estimated her to be around 4-5 years of age.

Indy At The Vet's
10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I have been rather concerned about Indy's excessive water-drinking. I've mentioned this to the vets before, so I thought to be safe, I'll better bring him in for a check-up this morning.Since young, Indy has developed this habit of drinking running water from the tap. We suspect it was Vixey who taught him that he must always drink fresh water. Indy was brought up by Vixey.Excessive water-drinking in normally indicative of kidney problems (which can become a real nightmare if it becomes chronic)...

10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

We provided Tommy with Echinacea and Noni Enzyme as supplements, and he was also ...

Wolverine And X-Friends At The Vet's (Jessy Lian's Rescues)
10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Jessy Lian wrote to me about her latest rescues who needed medical treatment. I suggested that she brought them to the nearest vet that is convenient for her and we will subsidise the treatment. From Jessy:Updates on Jaguar & it’s 3 siblings:-Yesterday afternoon I bought all 4 kittens to the nearest vet. The vet said all of them have flu. Their gender are still too young (1+ month old) to tell. I told the vet that some of them (or at least 1 of them) have diarrhoea, cos I found a few ...

Cleo The Poodle Passes Away
10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Cassandra sent me a video of Cleo yesterday afternoon. She looked alright, and had been given four blood transfusions. At around 7.45pm, Jessie (Cassandra's sister) texted me to say Cleo had passed away about an hour ago. According to Jessie, when Cassandra visited in the afternoon she had given her blessings to Cleo to let go if she is too tired of fighting on.  Animals know when to let go.Sometimes our animal companions are so loyal that they will fight on just to make us happy. I've seen ...
