Byrne is honoured as a hero by the Animal Rights Action Network.Links: http://breakingnews.ie/ireland /man-charged-after-pet-thrown-into-river-liffey-51 3592.htmlhttp://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0712/rabbit.h tml

A True Story To Share 27th Jul 2011, by Second Chance
We recently came across this article entitled “ A Teary Mother Bear Killed Her Baby and Committed Suicide- A Heart Breaking True Story”.We have decided to share this story though it’s not related to Dogs/Cats but still very much relevant if looked from “caring about animal welfare” perspective. The story brought tears to our eyes and lumps to our throats, for we simply cannot comprehend the amount of suffering humans are capable of inflicting upon other fellow living beings. All in the...

Please Try NOT To Bring Any Strays You See On The Streets To The SSPCA. 27th Jul 2011, by SPCA Sarawak
Most of them, although not clean or healthy looking, can take care of themselves and bringing them to the SPCA will result in more work, costs and burden to the staff who already have to take care of a few hundred animals, many of which are sick and severely malnourished.Of special concern are animals like kittens and puppies which are too small and young to be separated from their mothers. Sometimes, their mothers are not around because they have gone looking for food to feed themselves so that...

Goldie And Her Rescuer-Caregiver, Koo 27th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
This account is from Koo. Goldie is the first dog rescued from the Rawang Container Operation. Goldie's daughter, Winnie, has already been adopted.Dear Dr Chan, Thank you for arranging for the vet appointment for Goldie's 2nd vaccination. I would like to share a few lessons from the vet that I didn't know as a newbie fosterer:1) After every vaccination, the dog should not be bathed for a week because it might adversely affect the vaccine which needs the time to be fullyeffective.2) It ...

NASTY PEOPLE 26th Jul 2011, by Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better
More evidence is cropping up that Chitta's attack was prompted by the suspect who cannot tolerate dogs. Yesterday local council dog catchers went to the area and caught five of several dogs that were being fed by the residents there. These were the dogs that we had plans to TNRM as there were already people feeding and caring from them. These dogs were living behind Chitta's house and were probably her friends. We called up and the council people us that they had received a complaint from someon...

LOOKS LIKE MR T DOES NOT HAVE CANCER. 26th Jul 2011, by Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better
MR T, looking lost but healed when we visited him today.Remember this fellow who came to us with maggot spilling from his face? There were four tumours on his face and a hole from the nose to the top of his upper gum. Due to the extent of the damage, the vet thought that it was cancer but after initial treatment the holes in the face have closed-up and the dog, we've taken the liberty to name Mr T, is also eating well. So, we think that it was purely long untreated maggot wound which had r...

And There Are Those Who Suffer.... 26th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Amy Tham called me about this poor mother-cat who has given birth at least 3 times but each time, her kittens would all die. This is precisely what we sometimes do not see, especially those who claim that street animals are "okay" and that if you just leave them alone, they'll know how to survive. No, some of them don't. One of our rescues, Joanie, who is featured in my book "See you at Rainbow Bridge" was found with obstructed labour. One fetus was stuck at her vulva, causing ...

OLD GIRL NEEDS A PLACE TO FINISH HER TWILIGHT YEARS 26th Jul 2011, by Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better
We rescued this old girl several months ago wandering in Taman Tun. She was initially doing well but is in the decline and we think it is because of being locked up in the clinic and having only the walls to stare at. We visited her today and could feel her sadness and misery. So we are appealing for someone to give this old girl whom we call Auntie Sweetie a home or at least a foster home. Seeing her depressed is upsetting us - please help our Auntie Sweetie.

PLEASE PRAY FOR PUPPY'S SURVIVAL 26th Jul 2011, by Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better
At the clinic todayThis poor little puppy rescued by Mr Chong in Kepong is currently under our care. It was brought to our panel clinic by Mr Chong today and we admitted the puppy. After examining the pup, our vet told us that about 40 % of its tissue is exposed and if left like that the puppy will probably die within a few days. The vet explained that in cases such as this death usually occurs due to infection which leads to blood poisoning. So, we agreed that some radical measures are ta...

CHITTA GOING IN FOR SURGERY TOMORROW. 26th Jul 2011, by Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better
CHITTA AT THE CLINIC TODAY.We went to visit CITTA today and were happy to see that she is doing well. She's a strong girl and is coping with what happened to her well except for the fact that she is still somewhat very frightened of strangers. The vet has scheduled her spaying as well as nose reconstruction surgery tomorrow and we are keeping our fingers crossed that all will be well. The vet also gave us some pics that were taken when Citta arrived at the clinic. It was painfu...

Go Shorty! 26th Jul 2011, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal
I obviously meet lots of dogs and cats every day and I connect and adore all my patients. However, I definitely sometimes develop an instant connection with a pet for whatever reason and feel quite bonded to it.
It is not uncommon to feel like your own pet chose you and you could not resist!
Check out Shorty. How cute is that face? Can you honestly tell me you would be able to resist that?
Shorty was one special girl. She was the most interesting cross. We highly suspect she was a cross bet...
