RetroMAD1 And TVT
23rd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

We have very good news to share. A friend of mine used to think TVT was untreatable or that the treatment was terribly expensive until I told him it's VERY treatable and affordable. In fact, TVT is one of the most treatable cancers in dogs and it often heals incredibly well with the proper treatment (which is chemotherapy). So, he had this TVT-mother dog who had just given birth to five puppies. The whole family was rescued by someone else and was sent to him.Take a look: When first rescued ...

Updates On Jenny
23rd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Jenny is one of our amputees. She has since been living in a boarding house in Puchong, under the full sponsorship of rescuer Mei Leng.  Jenny's best friend at the boarding house - its resident cat!Mei Leng says this boarding house located in Puchong is run by a vet. One floor is the vet's clinic while another floor is the boarding house. For those of you who might need boarding, you might wish to consider this place. It is much healthier to board your pets at a boarding house than at a cli...

All Dogs Go To Heaven
23rd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

This evening, a rescuer I know had to make that very painful decision of having a sick puppy under her care put to sleep. She came by just now, to return the remaining RetroMAD1 to me. It had not worked on her puppy and the puppy was deteriorating to a state where she could not cope anymore.  She told me this morning that she had decided to have the puppy put down. I did not quite know what to say because I have always resisted that option in all the animals I've dealt with, no matter how ba...

Visiting Only-One

Snowy Day 5 - Please Keep Your Prayers Coming!
22nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

We do not count days, but moments and we rejoice now in this good news from Agnes:Snowy is very alert today (5th day) and has been eating and drinking on his own. He was walking around inside the cage to look at the surroundings. Dr Tan was very kind to let me have a month's supply of RetroMAD1 at a dosage of 0.3ml, once per day. Can also give twice a day. If fresh supply is forthcoming, I'll ask Snowy's vet to give twice/day. Dr Tan said this drug won't work if the animal's liver is damaged. I ...

Ear Patrol
22nd Aug 2011, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal

So I had a pretty cruisy start to the week. Only had one dog castration in the morning and had enought time to make all my follow-up calls including checkups, discussing lab results and etc. In the afternoon, I was booked up with consults and it went smoothly but I confess I did run a bit late… A 15 minute slot is simply not enough especially for an old dog check up where I discover heart issues, arthritis and skin allergies! Anyhow I powered through and survived the a...

Pecky, Cat With Suspected Calici Virus
22nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Wannie wrote to me two days ago about this cat that she had adopted from the street. The cat had stopped eating for three days and is limping.Arrangements were made for an appointment today. Wannie could not come, so her housemate, Alia, brought the cat, named Pecky. Pecky wouldn't come out, so the vet had to unscrew the top of the carrier. This is Pecky... Hello Pecky! We let her explore the room first... Her alertness and curiosity are absolutely normal. But she d...

Snowy Day 5 - To Take RetroMAD1
22nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Since Snowy is FeLV positive, it occurred to me last night that rather than just providing palliative care for him, we could try RetroMAD1 as well.  So, first thing this morning I contacted the scientist and he said in their earlier trials, the drug did kill off human Non-Hodgkins Beta Lymphoma cells and did not affect normal cells. If the ratio is at least 50 per cent normal cells, it's worth a try.So, that's it. I proposed this to Agnes and she said YES.  We're going to try.  I ...

22nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Dawn wrote me to sometime ago requesting help with the spay-neuter of some community cats and dogs that she looks after. For her geographical convenience, she would use her own vets. Fair & Lovely Johnny Still Looking For Home
22nd Aug 2011, by Second Chance

Johnny is one of the featured dog in our press release yesterday. He was surrendered to us by his owner after a neighbour complained she had too many dogs. Johnny is devoted to his owner and was initially depressed when he first got here but has learnt to adjust, although he is still wary of new people. Unfortunately, the stars forgot to shine down on Johnny yesterday.. He waited and waited and waited but didn’t managed to be adopted. Perhaps it is partially our fault as in order to keep him a...
