We had a super duper time at ITE Simei today creating awareness. The students there were just amazing and were so warm, friendly and enthusiatic about wanting to know how they can help animals. It is youths like this that give us hope for the animals and their future. We want to thank Cher and her fantastic team for inviting us and giving us this wonderful opportunity to share.

There has been a lot of discussion out there about people planning to get a Chinchilla ( aka Dragon Cat in the Chinese Language) as a pet to usher in the new year. Please think again. These gentle and fragile creatures require specialist care and can live till about 15 years of age, long after the lunar year is over. Please do not get one unless you are prepared to care for it for the rest of its life.

Pet Care Tip: Please do invest in the right hamster cage for your hamster. Cages with grilled floors, platforms, wheels and ladders are not ideal . A supporter shared with us how her hamster fatally injured itself by getting stuck in the grilled ladder. We certainly don’t want that to happen to your hamster.
*Please share this tip on your wall

Dear all, just a quick note and appeal. SPCA thanks and appreciates all those who want to help rehome unclaimed lost animals. However, it would be a great help if you did not direct potential adopters to call the SPCA when we are still trying our best to find the owner. This affects our ability to carry out our other services such as attending to emergency and rescue calls. Thus, we would really appreciate if you handled the administration and fielded all calls from potential adopters yourself. ...

SPCA Stands Ready To Re-Home Strays 28th Dec 2011, by SPCA Singapore
The SPCA stands ready to work with the AVA on re-homing adoptable strays. The opportunity to give these dogs a second chance presents itself now, and so we call on dog lovers to step forward to help the SPCA re-home the dogs. We will be featuring these animals on our facebook and website as and when they come in, so please look out for them. The SPCA will sterilise, vaccinate, micro-chip and license adoptable dogs, as is SPCA practice, and adopters will pay for these costs. While steril...

SPCA: Huskies Recommended For AVA Impoundment After Follow-Up Inspection 23rd Dec 2011, by SPCA Singapore
SPCA officials attended yesterday (22 Dec 2011) to follow up on the improvements for the huskies. We agree with the writer that the conditions at the field are unacceptable, and had relayed this to the owner initially.
On arrival at the location yesterday, conditions for the dogs were found to be appalling. The dogs were entangled in their leashes restricting their movement (we subsequently untangled them giving them access to their water bowl), flies and insects were flying around them, and f...

Adoption Spotlight 22nd Dec 2011, by SPCA Singapore
Sad fact: While many are enjoying this festive season, spending time with loved ones, many are also giving up their pets during this time, as happens every year. SPCA is absolutely full to bursting with dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters looking for new homes.
Happy fact: If you've been wanting to get a forever friend, now is the time to come down to the SPCA and find the dog for you.
Though their previous owners decided, for one reason or another, that they could not keep them, these wonderful ...

If you are thinking of giving a pet as a present this season, please think again. We believe that pets should not be treated as gifts and given as presents.
Countless pets are on sale and the temptation to buy them as a gift for someone is hard to resist. When the novelty wears off, the unwanted pet may end up being discarded/given up to the SPCA.
Animals are living beings that are capable of feeling pain and suffering. A plush dog/cat/rabbit may be a better gift for Christmas instead.
Pleas...

Adoption Spotlight 21st Dec 2011, by SPCA Singapore
This 7yo German Shepherd was given up because she did not bark! Sweet, gentle Kira wants a lifelong friend and will be a loyal companion to the last. Just don't ask her to bark ferociously at everybody. That's not her at all.
Check out our other lovely dogs for adoption on http://www.spca.org.sg/gallerydog1.html.
* Please spread the word and share this post.

Welcome To Singapore SPCA Online 16th Dec 2011, by SPCA Singapore
Pet Care Tip: Someone recently posted that they bought a pet for their kids and then found their kids were unable to care for the animal and thus wanted to give it away. This is a perfect example of why SPCA is against buying pets as gifts. If you are a parent and want to teach your children the responsibility of caring for an animal, you need to be sure that they are able to do so. In the event that they aren’t, then you have to take on that responsibility.
Pets are not toys to be discarded ...
