Newly employed landscape specialists in ACRES Lao PDR!
The grounds of the sambar deer (Rusa unicolor) enclosure has been highly compacted for many years. It is so hard that grass cannot grow on it anymore. What better way to solve this problem than to invite our two newest landscaping specialists, the wild pigs (Sus scrofa)! Mia's recovery and rehabilitation is going fantastically!!!
She is getting stronger and more confident by the day and we are looking forward to being able to release her back in to the wild very soon.

This week in ACRES Lao PDR!
After 4 months of communication with multiple agencies and concerned members of the public, ACRES Lao PDR finally coordinated the successful rescue of a juvenile pig-tailed macaque from Savannakhet Province. Kept as a pet in a guesthouse, malnutritioned and constantly frustrated in her small cage, she is now awaiting her chance to join her new macaque family at ACRES after her quarantine period.

Groovy 4th Oct 2013, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
When one of our Indian star tortoises, Groovy, was radiographed, it was revealed that she had 7 eggs including a hyper-calcified egg bound.
Thanks to hormone treatment and special care from the team at AWRC, Groovy has now laid all but 2 of the eggs.
We are also happy to report that she started eating again at the end of last month and is doing really well!! :)

Rescue And Release, And The Illegal Wildlife Trade. 4th Oct 2013, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
Over the past two months ACRES has rescued over 200 animals, including many from the illegal wildlife trade including star tortoises, ball pythons and a painted terrapin. We have also successfully released over 100 native animals back into the wild right here in Singapore. These include nearly 90 reptiles such as monitor lizards, reticulated pythons, cobras, vipers, pangolins, civets, bats, Paradise tree snakes and Wolf snakes, and a Malayan Box turtle.
