Thanks to PetFinder.my, Mrs Lee was able to know about Lily. She decided to adopt Lily due to her strong resemblance with her previous dog, Shereen. However, there were various concerns raised throughout the adoption process namely, whether Lily could get along with Mrs Lee's five rabbits as well as her resistance to walk in the park. The rabbits..Mrs Lai, together with Annie, dropped by Mrs Lee's place in Bandar Utama to quickly check up on Lily's progress. Initially Lily did not deal...

Food For Thought: Should We Feed The Strays? 11th Apr 2012, by Second Chance
Not a life we can ever imaginePhoto credit: HOPE Dog RescueWe are often told that feeding the strays is unwise. Maybe it is the idea that we are encouraging them to reproduce, or perhaps people just do not want hungry strays hanging in front of their house. Whatever it is, this is NOT the truth. In fact, feeding the street dogs might possible be a considerable alternative. Before you start shooting me down, do finish reading this article first. :)Many people disapprove of stray-feeding because ...

KANGAROO GETS A VISIT FROM HIS AUSTRALIAN SPONSORS!... Many people visit Soi Dog, but none find it more rewarding than those who get to meet their sponsor dog in person!
Joanna & Kevin flew all the way from Perth, Australia to meet their sponsor dog "Kangaroo" who's one of our longer serving residents & has one eye missing. He's a playful dog & loves it when volunteers come to visit. Joanna & Kevin took Kanagaroo & his friend "Tamarind" for a walk around the shelter grounds, stopping for treats...

Subsidy For Neutering A Male Cat In Johor (Jacquelyn Ng Lee Woon’s) 11th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
From Jacquelyn Ng:
Dr. Chan,
I’m in kluang, johor now. A male stray cat in my neighbourhood who sometimes feed by my malay neighbour is found losing weight but appetite maintained. I will bring him to the vet to find out his problem and what can be done. Is this qualified for the subsidy as the cat is at Johor? A photo is attached for your reference, thanks.
Apparently, the vet did not find anything wrong with the cat (named Atok by the neighbour), so Atok has been neutered now and we hav...

SPCA Penang Animal Shelter Pick of the Week
Woofs and wags from
“The Ja Family”
The three of us, Manja, Panja and Kunja, ...we are just so cute, adorable and loveable aren’t we? Don’t you just want to pick us up and hug us tight and never let us go? As for us, we just want to be in your arms and have you hug us all day long.
So folks—it’s a win-win situation!
In the beginning we were not of the same family. However, at the Animal
Shelter the staff allocated us into the three c...

How Mr G Comes… 11th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Follow the Yellow Brick Road?
More like the Black Railway Sleeper Road….
It is very interesting how Mr G comes every day. He follows the same, exact route, without fail.
Cats are creatures of habit, and they would rather die than change a habit.
Talk about persistence, they definitely win hands down.
Here’s how Mr G comes.
I assume he uses a platform to jump from his house (diagonally at the back of mine – these old houses have no back alleys) onto the ledge.
He walks along ...

Do You Want To Be A Leopard, A Gopher Or A Fish? 11th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
I wrote this the other day when we were talking about the various poses that our cats adopt: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/03/all-abo ut-the-leopard-pose/
Cats are such interesting creatures, because despite their aloofness and occasional arrogance and callousness, they have this uncanny way of entertaining us and making us laugh, just by being who they are.
Back to the leopard pose now:
Qualifying criteria: One or two limbs must be dangling from branch or resting place.
Bunny has been ...

Litter Tales, Again! 11th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
After weeks of experimenting with various litter, I have settled for OKO Plus. Note that I said “I” and not my cats, because my cats still prefer Ever Clean.
However, I found out that Ever Clean uses high quality bentonite (clay), and because it is high quality (which explains its price(!) and why it clumps so incredibly well), it is dust free. The only problem is, the harvesting of clay destroys the topsoil and hence, it is not an environmentally friendly product. Knowing this, I ha...

So, Ann was returned not too long ago as she did not seem to be able to adapt well with her new adopted family. The adopter decided to return Ann and took Victor back home instead!
